Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders known as Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD).

Today, it is estimated that one in every 110 children is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes and pediatric AIDS combined. An estimated 1.5 million individuals in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide are affected by autism.

Autism Speaks is working to extend awareness and investigation of potential immunological issues to researchers outside the field of autism as well as those within the autism research community. Autism Speaks joins Discoveries of Hope Foundation to promote greater awareness through our campaign

Susan G. Komen for a Cure

Susan G. Komen fought breast cancer with her heart, body and soul. Throughout her diagnosis, treatments, and endless days in the hospital, she spent her time thinking of ways to make life better for otherPhoto of women women battling breast cancer instead of worrying about her own situation. That concern for others continued even as Susan neared the end of her fight. Moved by Susan’s compassion for others and committed to making a difference, Nancy G. Brinker promised her sister that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever.

That promise is now Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the global leader of the breast cancer movement, having invested more than $1.9 billion since inception in 1982.

As the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, we’re working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.

Thanks to events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® and the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®, and generous contributions from our partners, sponsors and fellow supporters, we have become the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

Big Cat Encounters Ranch (BCE) is one of the most unique wild animal sanctuaries in Pahrump, Nevada. Located on five acres of grassland, the Ranch offers the opportunity for Photo of a tigervisitors to see tigers up close and personal. Currently, the ranch has 8 rare tigers both white and tabby heterozygous species, and a liger. The Ranch also offers a "Swim with the Tiger" program and a unique "Big Cat Educational Program". BCE is a nonprofit organization with proceeds soley for the care and upkeep of the animals.

Karl Mitchell, owner and operator of BCE Ranch, started in the animal world 25 years ago. Eventually Mitchell became a sort of animal guru, able to train animals ranging from antelope to zebras. His real passion has become the big cats of Africa and tigers from India.

Discoveries of Hope is supporting this organization as part of the BCE At-Risk-Youth program, Autism Kids Program and their efforts to help protect these precious animals from extinction, as well as raise money for a much needed water well for the ranch to improve the quality of care for them.

By having these opportunities available for others to experience up close (that may not have otherwise had the chance to see them in the wild) we continue to bring awareness to the mission and cause, in which Karl Mitchell lives and breathes for, saving tigers from extinction.
